How wrong i was with my conventional wisdom. I thought rich multimillionaire entrepreneurs generate wealth and jobs at equal proportions. My belief took a hit, when i stumbled on this New World Wealth report. The report says, Kolkata has more multi millionaires than Bengaluru. I took a quick dig at Naukri, did a city wise search and found Bengaluru has a whopping seven and half times more vacant positions than Kolkata (35,554 vs. 4,691). I understand that this comparison is too simplistic. Bengaluru has jobs from west, but then Kolkata too gets its share of outsourced jobs. But Kolkata’s number of available jobs is abysmally low. In fact, other Indian cities featured in the list, Hyderabad (510 multimillionaires), Chennai (390) and Pune (250) have way less multimillionaires than Kolkata’s 570, but have multifold more advertised jobs. This is unbelievable!
